To ensure intricate detail and durability, many of the fine parts have been reproduced from injection molded plastic and cold cast resin. The speeder will rest on these supports and will not be attached in any way.Prop StoryFrom the Battle of Hoth, the modified T-47 airspeeder, known more commonly as the Snowspeeder. At the climax of the Battle of Hoth in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, the Imperial forces appeared unstoppable. The battle appeared to be one-sided as the AT-AT Imperial walkers lumbered towards their intended targets unhindered by cannon fire or Rebel heavy blasters. However, the Rebels had another weapon in their arsenal: the modified T-47 airspeeder, known more commonly as the Snowspeeder. These swift, two-man vehicles utilized repulsor-lift technology to hover above the ground. Two primary engines in the rear provided forward momentum, while a pilot and a rear gunner occupied the tiny cockpit in the center. In addition to two blaster cannons mounted atop the wings, this lightweight craft also carried a cannon/harpoon launcher in the rear. Using this harpoon and an attached tow-cable, one of these small snowspeeders was able to topple over a mighty AT-AT. Expertly Recreated at 3/4 Scale In the real world, these fascinating vehicles were created by the ILM model crew in resin, metal, and plastic. There were several different sizes of miniature models created for filming. These ranged from tiny models only a few inches long, to a four-foot long model used for close-up shots like the scene when the foot of an AT-AT crushes Luke's Snowspeeder. Several full-sized speeder mockups were also created for action shots of the actors. Master Replicas focused on the 21-inch studio scale models that were used for most of the primary shots in the film. The models varied substantially in detailing and markings, so their designers sought out the model with the gray stripes that was used by Luke Skywalker. By comparing the archived models to screen grabs they were able to locate the exact model and used it as their master reference pattern. Master Replicas' design team took hundreds of photographs of the prop and obtained color chips of the paint in order to create an exact match of the prop's coloring. Because the cockpit of the 21-inch studio model was not designed for close up shots, Master Replicas' designers worked with Lucasfilm to create a composite of both the studio model and full-size sets. This was apparently chosen for its small size so as to not appear bulky while being held by the petite Carrie Fisher.An extended barrel was added to the base pistol, covered by a coiled cord (either the accessory cord from an antique flashgun or a British telephone cord) and a finned component (a British plastic plumbing adapter). The business end of the barrel is capped by a .22 caliber recoil compensator that was often included with this type of pistol for target shooting. Although thought to be lost for many years, Master Replicas located the original prop in the possession of a private collector in England. To create our replica, data was obtained from this individual on the origin and dimensions of the added components. In addition, MR purchased a mint condition, period Soviet .22 caliber target pistol for reference. Upon examination of several of these Russian firearms and numerous other photographs, it was evident that many variations existed in their basic design and details. Prop Story Fiercely defending the cause of freedom and individualism, the courageous men and women of the Rebel Alliance would lay down their lives to protect Princess Leia and her starship. In the opening scene of Star Wars: A New Hope, Rebel troopers do just that--wielding their blaster pistols in a desperate attempt to fight off the faceless enemy stormtroopers who overrun Leia Organa's starship. The Rebel blaster was the first Star Wars weapon to appear on-screen and was modeled after a 1950's British submachine gun (also the model for the stormtrooper blaster). Like all blaster pistols in the Star Wars trilogy, it fired bursts of searing light-based energy called bolts. In creating the Rebel blaster, Lucasfilm made some major modifications to the original submachine gun. First, the prop designers removed the folding stock, a feature that was kept for the stormtrooper blaster. While the stormtrooper blaster had barrel vent holes that were covered with plastic "T-track", the Rebel blaster had vent holes covered with a tube of ribbed, rolled metal. A cone was attached to the muzzle of the Rebel blaster and a solid metal bar was then added to the top of the barrel, and the sides were detailed with "T-track" for the mounting of a scope. A non-optical scope was mounted to the bar using off-the-shelf mounting rings.While the referenced submachine gun normally uses a 32-round magazine mounted on the left side of the gun to hold the ammunition, the Rebel blaster used neither a magazine nor had a magazine housing. There were also stunt versions made for Star Wars: A New Hope that looked slightly different than the standard prop. Notably, the stunt version had a thicker trigger guard. Master Replicas modeled its Rebel blaster collectible on a blank-firing "hero" version of the prop.
